Toyota announced Japan sales for the US-built Tundra and Highlander on April 2, 2026. The vehicles will first be offered through Toyota Mobility Tokyo; Nationwide sales are planned to begin in the summer.
The decision is based on the new system that comes into force on February 16, 2026. The system allows the sale of vehicles produced in the USA without passing additional certification tests specific to Japan; It was announced that two models were approved in this context.
Tundra is positioned as a large pick-up with a ladder chassis, while Highlander is positioned as a three-row mid-size SUV. Toyota also states that sales will begin once preparations for the Camry it is evaluating are completed. The announcement shows how the regulatory change in vehicle imports is reflected in the concrete product decision.
