BMW Group started mass battery production by opening its Irlbach-Straßkirchen factory. The facility in Bavaria prepares the sixth generation high voltage batteries used in Neue Klasse vehicles. The first deliveries are for the electric i3 produced in the Munich factory.

The investment amount was announced as approximately one billion euros. The establishment of the facility was completed approximately two and a half years after the start of construction. BMW reports that series production runs in two shifts from the start.

The factory was planned as one of the centers that will supply batteries to German vehicle production facilities. Research, production and recycling activities are connected within the battery network in Bavaria. This statement confirms a capacity increase; There is no separate estimate here for the annual production amount.
