BMW Group announced that it has invested approximately two billion euros in vehicle and battery production for the new 3 Series. Approximately one billion euros of this is allocated to the development of the Munich and Dingolfing plants, and the other part to the new Irlbach-Straßkirchen battery factory.

The fully electric i3 will be produced in Munich. The sixth generation batteries will come from Irlbach-Straßkirchen. The production location of the 3 Series versions with internal combustion engine and rechargeable hybrid layout was stated as Dingolfing.

The new generation thus connects the production points in Bavaria by sharing tasks. The BMW statement reveals that it has invested in battery manufacturing as well as vehicle assembly. The company's local production approach also envisages separate applications for facilities in other regions.
