Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez and Volkswagen Group management attended the opening ceremony. SEAT and CUPRA announced that they invested over three billion euros in the transformation of Martorell. The investment is attributed to preparing the production infrastructure for electric vehicles.

While the common platform increases component sharing in development and production, models are offered with separate brand identities. SEAT and CUPRA are managing the project on behalf of Brand Group Core. The company says it will also lead the ongoing development of the MEB21 platform within the same organization.
