Ford announced that the Mustang GTD Competition completed the Nürburgring Nordschleife lap in 6 minutes 40.835 seconds. At the wheel was Ford Racing and Multimatic factory driver Dirk Müller; The time was recorded in the prototype and pre-production class.
Development of the new car focuses on power, aerodynamic efficiency, tire grip and weight reduction. Hardware and tuning changes are aimed at increasing the supercharged 5.2-liter V8's power level above the previous GTD.
Aerodynamic changes include a rear wing, additional front surfaces and carbon discs; Lightweight seats are also used with magnesium wheels. The class distinction forms the technical framework that must be taken into account when comparing this round with the previous production GTD grade.
