Nissan and Honda announced a joint development agreement for the next generation of software-defined vehicles on August 31, 2026. The study covers basic electronic control units and the operating system, middleware and vehicle control software running in these units.

The parties will determine common specifications for high-performance host computers and control units that manage vehicle zones. Combining development resources, reducing costs and renewing technology faster are the stated aims of the program.

The common electronic architecture is planned to be implemented in the new SDVs of the two companies starting from fiscal year 2029. The agreement does not mean the completion of a particular car or the unification of all brand software; The scope is described by basic control hardware and selected software layers.
