Volkswagen announced the new full hybrid system to be used in Golf and T-Roc for the Vienna Engine Symposium. The April announcement plans for implementation to begin in the final quarter of the year, with two power levels to be offered.

In the front-wheel drive layout, the turbo gasoline engine, lithium-ion battery and hybrid module work together. The module includes an electric traction motor, a second electric machine acting as a generator, power electronics, differential and single-ratio transmission.

The electronic multi-plate clutch connects and disconnects the gasoline engine to the transmission. Since the energy is provided by recovery and the generator inside the vehicle, no external charging is required. Volkswagen positions the new Hybrid naming separately from the eTSI mild hybrid and eHybrid and GTE plug-in hybrids.
