804 grams captured in Mazda's on-board CO₂ trial announced

Mazda reported that 804 grams of CO₂ were captured in the system trial at the Super Taikyu 24-hour race. The experiment involved separating the gas and storing it in a tank on the vehicle.

Mazda announced the new result of its on-board Mobile Carbon Capture trial on June 8, 2026. The racing car used in the 5–7 June Super Taikyu event was fitted with a CO₂ separation function and storage tank in addition to the previous system.

Porous zeolite retains CO₂; The gas is separated by exhaust heat, compressed with an electric compressor and transferred to the tank. It was reported that 804 grams were caught during the 24-hour race, approximately 9.6 times the previous result of 84 grams.

The vehicle ran on HVO fuel. Mazda makes it clear that it is evaluating the potential for carbon negative use over a limited time period. The result belongs to the research system; it is not translated into the claim that standard road vehicles are carbon negative throughout their entire lifecycle.
